Name:Abba Evenwind
Pronunciation:Ab-uh Eev-in-wind
Gender:Non-binary/Genderqueer, 2/3rd girl and 1/3rd boy?
Age:15
Turnday:62.05.22
Weyr:Rainbow Mists
Rank:Candidate
Family:Mother-smith-40-Bana, father-weaver-38-Abin, little brother-hasn’t picked a craft yet-12-Nain
Friends: There were a couple kids back home she ate lunch with?
Pets:In possession of a firelizard egg (which will hatch into a Jungle flit shortly after Abba arrives!)
Appearance:
Glowing light brown skin and sharp amber eyes. Abba’s hair is black and smooth, though usually covered by a scarf. She stands at 5'5", usually has a fairly grim expression, and keeps a clean-shaven face. Some kids in her age make fun of her adam’s apple or prominent nose, but they’re deadglows. Long tunics or dresses are Abba’s preferred outfits, but she’s also not opposed to wearing pants and skirts with a bright top. She wears clothes that might seem a bit warm for late spring or summer, but Abba just isn’t a fan of short sleeves or skirts and pants that don’t go well past her knees.
Personality:
Positive: Observant, openhanded, strong sense of justice, fearless, steadfast
Negative: Internalized victim blaming, distrustful, pushes people away, highly suspicious of authority, lonely
Abba is the frontline activist kind of person. Nothing makes her angrier than seeing people taken advantage of. That’s not to say she starts fights, but she sure finishes them (or keeps fighting until she can no longer stand). She’s a bit of an anarchist at heart, seeing as authority figures have failed her over and over again. She’s slow to trust and often downright suspicious of other people— most especially humans.
But this is how Abba survives.
If you can work past her protective shell, you’ll meet a girl with the heart of a lion (or Pernese equivalent)
History:
When Abba was born in the outlying area of Stormy Plains, her parents thought she was a boy. And she was raised to think she was a boy. But it never quite fit. Abba knew it wasn’t entirely wrong, but it wasn’t very right either. Her parents were accepting of their child’s preferred hobbies and play things, but they drew the line at “girls’ clothes” in public. This didn’t stop Abba’s peers from ridiculing her. The schoolhouse authorities didn’t stop it either.
Abba grew up with a slightly younger brother with mutism. He was unconditionally accepting of her (though they fought, as siblings do). It made his heart ache that he couldn’t protect her. It was her brother that welcomed Abba home every day as Abba composed herself for their soon-to-arrive parents.
A friend of the family had a hunch when Abba was miserably going through puberty and suggested a mindhealer he knew. The talks were…interesting. Abba had heard of people who lived as the opposite gender they were assigned, but wasn’t that, like, all the way? Man or woman? Not yes to one and some of the other? What did her mindhealer mean “other gender”? And then it all fit together.
Abba didn’t want to change her name (why should she have to?), but she did want to be allowed to present as she chose. Her parents were hesitant, but ultimately allowed it. Abba started getting into fights, which was about the only thing the schoolhouse took seriously. She was encouraged to act like a boy while at school. Maybe she could stop the bullying that way? Abba’s counter suggestion was that her pronouns and gender be honored, but that was shot down.
Abba though she would go out of her mind, but then a dragon and rider approached her during a Search. Would Abba like to Stand?
And that was more or less how Abba came to Rainbow Mists. Alone but for the parting gift of a flit egg.
