Midday
“HISSSSSSS!”
Shri looked into her quarters from the open door, staring at Dea. The Copper was guarding her eggs, each one of which was in its own pot full of heated sand. Even the woman she was bonded to was not safe…from being hissed at.
“Hello to you too, Darling.” She tossed her bag onto her bed, and gave Selt a pat on his head, the Flame keeping tight to his perch on her belt. Analis didn’t look impressed at the Copper’s antics, but wasn’t confronting her, which was about the best Shri could hope for. Shri snapped and point to the bed, Selt bouncing to the bed and slinking around her bag, finally resting on the pillow. Analis found a perch nearby and waited, while Shri approached the eggs.
Dea looked perturbed, but didn’t make any further noise, at least not until Shri grabbed one of the pots. “Hiissss…” Yes, this was her human, but these were her eggs! Lovely eggs she was not going to let filthy humans have. Though her human wasn’t so filthy. Shri stared at Dea for a long moment before dusting off the sand so she could touch the egg. Dea merely simmered in her ire, which cooled somewhat as all Shri was doing was touching the egg, and nothing else. At least that was what it looked like. After a time the egg was covered, and its pot was put back with the others.
Shri had been doing this ever since it had been possible to do so. She prided herself on matching eggs to the people that purchased them. Problem was, this time around, well, everyone knew this was Dea’s clutch, and her flight had resulted in at least a few flitter injuries. That actually didn’t surprise her a lot, Dea was a bit of a brat when it came to flights. Course that made them hard to match because they were hard to sell. This clutch might mostly go wild, which was a shame, it was a large one. And a…interesting one. It presented problems though, what with her living in the Aerie. Having a clutch of interesting flitters running around with a crowd of doctors and patients was not something she was going to inflict on the Aerie. Which meant she had to start the process of moving the eggs, somehow, to the Weyr.
Shri stared at Dea. This was going to be a loooooong week.
