[/i] heartbeats after the rainbow gaze of Impression. In the best case scenarios, their human counterpart died with them; in worse case scenarios, they survived, dragonlost.
It was in Southern Weyr that the first adaptations of dragonkind emerged, though not all saw them as such. From the deceptively golden shell of a Queen egg spilled forth a mercurial anomaly, her color later referred to as platinum. She was Queen Lirianth, first of her kind. Alongside her hatched a dragon whose hide reflected a faint rainbow, and for her color she was called opal; and her name was Minluth. The sisters faced great conflict and discrimination. Many saw them as aberrations, while others sympathized with them; and many others simply didn't care, as any and all dragons were needed so close to the beginning of a Pass.
So it was that the whisperings of a revolution spread across Pern, as the platinum Queen prepared to Rise for her first flight; and Pern watched with bated breath as she did, and the controversy began anew. Though some doubted her ability to clutch, she became gravid. As this news spread, she and her Weyrwoman received a grave warning from their opal sister; if she clutched on Southern's sands, the lives of her and her offspring would be jeopardized. Seemingly overnight, preparations were finished, and by the dawn, Lirianth had fled Southern with a small force of trusted riders to aid her and Hers in founding a new Weyr; Storm's Eye.
