Turnday: 04.13 Turn 7059
Weyr: Rainbow Mists Weyr
Rank: Hunter, Candidate
Family: Rythos (Father), Thalia (Mother)

Appearance:
Measuring in at around 6’1 Rythal has a fairly well build frame with musculature donating his status as an explorer. With an ungainly mop of brown hair that serves to hide his light blue eyes and air of gruffness by the near perpetual presence of 5 o’clock shadow he is often deemed to be unkempt in appearance. In regards to his clothing he is often seen wearing a thick leather jacket and rugged backpack. Attached via a series of straps dangles his ‘Sketch-book’ and writing implement that are easily unhooked from their holding place. A bow and quiver and attached to the backpack for the few cases when he requires them.
(Play by Joe Flanigan)
Personality:
Rythal is an individual known for his quiet and rather shy attitude to others and typically attempts to avoid social interactions beyond what is required. This does not imply that he is entirely devoid of the required social aptitudes needed for communication and occasionally enjoys conversations regarding the various flora and fauna of pern - showing genuine curiosity regarding their potential applications and uses. Paradoxically he is extremely secretive when it comes to his sketch-book and at the same time is overly inquisitive to the point of ignoring social norms regarding personal space to get a look at things he does not have information of.
His thirst for knowledge is infamous by those that have known him over the years of his life. Becoming friends with Rythal is a complex task which requires the meeting of two equal minds or perhaps the employment of a third party. (Dragon, wink wink)
History:
Born in the wilds to a pair of merchants known as Rythos and Thalia - he was raised to be independent entirely detached from any roots that a normal child is expected to have.
Living within a canvas covered wagon pulled by a pair of runner beasts he was taught from an early age the various quirks of beasts and the rare plants which served as the foundation of both food and medicine which their travels provided them with.
During his sixth turn he was ‘blooded’ as his Father took him hunting where he was aided in killing a wild herdbeast with a bow - his Father aiding him in pulling back the string and aiming. The memory itself is one that was burned into Rythal’s mind as he was finish the job after which his Father left the beast as it was simply too-gamey and its hide ruddy and scarred from years within the wilds. It was this memory that drove him to vow not to kill needlessly - he would always find reason and use whatever he could from the animals that he killed.
During his eighth turn he began to learn the unusual practice of sketching and writing along with the methods to produce parchments needed. And with his understanding of the flora that surrounded him during his travels with his parents he produced a book using adhesive made from the sap of gling trees. It was from this moment that he began his constant desire to catalogue all that he saw; from the holds, beasts and plants he recorded all that he could within the tomes that he manufactured for himself.
As he approached his thirteenth year his parents decided to settle within a smaller hold - having become too aged and worn from their perpetual movements across the continent. Seeking to continue his own travels Rythos moved from trading caravan to trading caravan as a member of their support staff; hunting predators and assembling simple remedies to assist. And even whilst under the employ of strangers he continued his hobby of cataloging.
During his fifteenth turn upon Pern the caravan he was riding with suffered from a rockslide that pushed from into the waters which they have previously dangled precariously from. Without knowledge of how to swim - having largely been confined to land-locked routes the boy almost drowned until he found and clung to a Runnerbeast that had managed to break free from the ropes that had tied it to the wagon. After reaching the coast he struggled to keep both himself and the Runnerbeast alive long enough to make it back to civilization.
He succeeded in the former part of his task but ultimately the Runnerbeast which had carried towards the trade-routes passed peacefully. And for the next few months Rythal lived almost entirely isolated, following the long path towards civilization without the aid of wagon or runner. It was during this time that he was able to focus almost entirely upon what he loved, cataloging; flora, fauna and the various nooks of the wilds which he perceived with interest.
Ultimately he managed to return to the safety of the Holds and after a few months of recuperation he returned to his role as an caravaneer - however opting to exist solely within the land-locked routes which were laced across pern. This cycle of constant movement persisted until his searching - a curious event that Rythal marked in his tomes as a most bizzare day.
Reaching a Hold undergoing search Rythal had intended to quickly depart as soon as he could. However fate itself seemed to conspire against him as he found himself being head-butted by an overly curious fire-lizard that had been entinced by the various smells from wagon he resided within.
