Even as much as her human liked Rainbow Mists, Poica liked it more. It was filled with firelizards and dragons and so many people to fuss over and watch. The landscape was different, both stone and forest, plenty of places to play with Suiathon and anyone else who would indulge the often overbearing rainbow. For you see she was not just a typical rainbow, she was a mutation of her kind, more intense in coloration and personality. Her coloration, already a bit of an eye sore, practically blinded as she landed on a branch that stretched toward the wher barracks, coming dangerously close to encroaching on the Weyrbowl. It was a daring branch, not one to conform like the others, Poica liked this branch.
Preening for a moment, she made sure she was looking her best before sending out the call. It was time she rose again, time she led her suitors on a merry chase through the forest and around the Weyr until she deemed one of them the winner of her heart....at least for a day or two. There were just too many gentleman and all deserved her affection. There was nothing wrong with that, right? No, she didn't think so. Sending out her musical call once more, she fanned her vibrant wings.
Trouble, was always just out of sight. The Rainbow called out to the male firelizards, but she couldn’t have known what exactly she had summoned. One of the first to appear was a Flame, not of the kingly variety, but a quiet and intelligent creature. This was Selt, Shri’s oft used messenger and tiny spy. The Flame slunk around the shadows, gathering information on the pending flight. He glanced at the shining Queen, then at the area around. Even before it occurred, he tilted his head toward another suitor’s appearance. The trouble was, he knew exactly who it was.
Panero appeared from nowhere, trilling out his arrival to compete. The Crimson and Brick firelizard could be subtle, but was trouble with a capital T. Shri lumped him together with Dea on the unholy terror side of her fair. Sometimes. It was hard to tell what lengths the trickster would go to in a flight situation. The Crimson-Brick called out, declaring his intentions, before rumbling freely. He glanced at the elder Flame, looking amused.
Selt bristled under the other firelizard’s gaze. He wasn’t going to let Panero get away with it if he ruined the one chance he’d had to chase an actual nice firelizard. Selt had been bullied by the other two females in his fair well enough. He strode forward, out of hiding on the ground, and called once. That was very likely the last noise he would make this flight. His eyes whirled but he stood in silence, waiting and eternally watching.
A Brown winked in. Sonder found a suitable spot on the wall that separated the jungle from the Bowl. He cast a longing gaze at the brilliant Rainbow up on the branch and let out a trill to alert the group to his presence. He took stock of the Flame and colorful Crimson-Brick that were there ahead of him, one defensive, the other perhaps finding humor in it. He was an observational sort of fellow that belonged to one contented BlueRider. He looked up abruptly at as glint caught his eye, immediately squinted at the sheen in the sunlight. It made an intrusive racket of chattering this large, irksome flitt.
As flashy as his Impressed was wont to be for grand occasions, Lithena's Alvolio loop-de-looped in. He alighted in another tree, admiring Poica, still chattering, as if to tell her all the things they had in common. Trailing in silently, gliding over the Crimson-Brick, was a little Blue of no particular note. Sario drifted to the ground, sitting near but off to the side to peer up at Poica on her branch. He liked blending in.
Deciding that she'd gathered herself a delightful assortment of suitors, Poica let out a musical little trill and launched into the air. The fading light catching her hide and highlighting the splashes of colors across her wings as she rose above the trees. This was going to be a flight comprised mostly of agility. The queen was in the mood to play and her suitors had best keep up.
Once she was sure they were all trailing along behind her, Poica let out a joyous cry and dove down into the forest and through the canopy, dodging branches and vines with the ease of a firelizard that spent a great deal of time doing such things. Encouraging the males to follow, she crooned as the flight broke through to the lower branches of the jungle where she bobbed, weaved and practically bounced through the air as though performing some sort of dance.
Selt took in each of the other suitors as they arrived, sizing them all up. It looked as though there was only one other firelizard that was similar sized to Panero chasing, it would influence how the chase went. The other were smaller, one being about his own size. Tricky. Lots of variables, but he was good at keeping things straight. His eyes whirled as the Rainbow so bright bid them follow. He rose and sped after her, welcoming the chase’s start.
Panero also followed, and took in where Poica led them. Soon enough she dived into the treeline, and his eyes whirled merrily. What a chance. He followed, and waited for a chance. They swerved around vines and branches, and though he followed, he seemed slightly distracted. As they turned by one of the branched he sped up suddenly, and grabbed the branch as he went by, letting go a moment later. It would snap back a moment later, possibly into other chasing males. He rumbled. All was fair in love and war dear friends.
Selt was flying low through the forest as he followed. He spied Panero’s gambit and felt entirely vindicated for doing so.
The call to chase came from an unknown source, and the jungle let out a trill before popping between to give chase. Landing himself on a nearby perch he eyed Poica and the fellow sutiors that had arrived thus far. A fair amount of competition, no matter, it was a chance for Thorn to get out and stretch his wings, and he gave them a shuffle before chattering a greeting to the queen herself.
Lovely day for a flight it was, as Poica made her way above the trees, the jungle 'lizard followed suit, pumping his green mottled wings and paying little mind to the others following the colorful female.
She dove, and it took him a moment to spot her again, beautiful hide against a canopy of trees. As she spilled through the tree tops he tucked his wings in and dove in right after her..his body blending in with the earthy tones of the leaves and vines around them. While he wasn't as agile as she was, he kept up as best he could, focusing as he maneuvered himself through the foliage.

Brown and Blue and bright Flame followed as Poica sped away. Alvolio with all his bright colors flashed and flared through the bright green vines and ferns and leaves. His hide of yellow and oranges leapt off the background of foliage above and below. He kept after the Rainbow, admiring her brilliance, envisioning the sight they would make together. They had the traits to stand out together. They were a perfect pair.
Sonder hung back to keep an eye on the others, estimating their tactics and personalities. He even admired them. Swift and dedicated, as he was. He watched Selt's plan to avoid Panero's trick, which had the unfortunate effect of catching Sario the Blue across the nose. Sonder lost sight of him soon after that, hearing only the last of the faint cry of pain and protest. In a moment he spotted the new comer, though he was much Alvolio's opposite. A green hued flitt speeding along in the jungle. All in all a fair Flight to witness, though he held hopes of winning himself.
