Taissa braided her hair back as she scurried down into the kitchens. She skip-hopped a few steps leaning on a wall for support as she pulled her left boot completely on her foot as she was in a rush out the door. The furred inside tickled her toes as she situated her foot inside on the last hop and bolted down the stair way, skipping a step or two as she went. She rounded the corner, curly bangs falling from the wind to frame her face as she faced the assistant to the Headwoman, beaming. "I'm on time!" she said, thanking the stars she wasn't late.
A list of chores was rambled off to her: clean the tables, wash the vegetables for the stew and begin chopping meat. She nodded feverishly and set to work at the tables where riders and weyrfolk gathered for meals. She grabbed a bucket of warm water and a scrub brush, tucked a cloth in her belt and began to work on removing grime from the tables so they would be clean for the morning crowd that milled in and out. It was early and she herself had not eaten but at least her blood was pumping after the first table was cleared and klah would be ready soon. The smell of meatrolls wafted through the air and to her nose, causing her mouth to water and her elbows to move a bit faster.

The buzz around the Weyr grew with the time, by the time Taissa had finished with table scrubbing and washing vegetables, the drudge's were in a stir and frenzy. She paused her meat chopping to catch a few words such as egg, clutch, gold. She perked up, her eyebrows raised and her ears tuning in harder. "Gold egg?" she whispered to herself. Her heart nearly leaped from her chest. In her mind, she felt the swirling hope of impressing a Queen, only for it to fade out abruptly.
You're not good enough for a Queen. she thought to herself, the feeling of a dark void growing inside her mind, similar to the void that is known as between. She grimaced, feeling a self loathing and sadness overwhelm her. Never good enough.
She cried out as a sliver of her index finger was sliced with the knife. Enough to bleed but not enough to have a chunk of finger go missing. She winced and grabbed a rag, wrapping it up tight. She took the knife and threw it in a soapy bucket to be cleaned and walked away from the chunk of meat that was mostly chopped. She wiped it clean with the rag as she searched for the healer girl that was usually around the kitchens studying.
In her moment of frantic, for the white cloth was stained red, she found the deaf rider and frantically waved at her for her attention.
======
Adiana looked up to the girl, her eyes wide with shock as the bloody rag was waved a safe distance from her face. She winced and held out her hand to the dark haired girl, grabbing the girl's hand in a swift movement and removing the rag. She made a tsk-tsk clicking noise and held up her finger in the "one" sign as to advise to give her a moment. She moved deftly to her little side bags on her belt and pulled out a little bottle of healing salve mixed with numbweed and emptied a bit of content onto the girl's finger. She took a clean strip of thin cloth from the other pouch and wrapped it around the girls finger, tucking it into itself to secure the wrapping. She smiled brightly and verbally spoke, "Alllll bett-rrr." she beamed.
======
Taissa grinned in gratitude, feeling the salve numbing the spot and soothing it all in one go. She clutched her hand to her chest and smiled at the girl brightly and said "Thank you!" out loud, slowing the words and exaggerating them a bit to make it easier for Adiana to understand. She noticed the girl had no food as the blonde moved to sit back down once putting her supplies away. Taissa flurried away, into the kitchens and put up a tray with nice soft cheese slices, some bread and two bowls of stew with a hot cup of klah for the both of them and moved back to the table and sat herself down and the tray between them. She grinned and gestured to the food and took herself up a bowl to chow down and converse with the white rider, showing gratitude for the favor.
