We now present, a crack fic written by Kaya. R'vin x R'lor one shot, meant entirely in fun and nonseriousness for the crazy in here contest.
Thunder
The crack of lightning lit up the entrance the weyr despite the rain. The groan of thunder was quick to follow, resounding in the caves and halls with its dying will. The rain refused to let up, turning the island from a hideout into a prison. Appropriately disgusting food sat getting colder on the table, slop for the confined troublemakers.
It was this storm, sprung up in the wake of Renika’s death, that concealed the fugitives. R’vin had arrived under its cover and R’lor had been dragged back to his weyr by Kaurth. Carnith, despite his anger and overwhelming desire to stay with R’vin, was several islands away avoiding Bador’s detection.
R’vin stirred the sad excuse for soup without enthusiasm. This man was the one who had shared Renika’s dying moments. The one who had seen the last traces of her coy smile and drifting hair.
The lightning roared.
But she was no more, like so many others. Fate bound her to flash into glory only to die in brilliance, leaving the earth blind, shaking in her wake.
The thunder rolled.
R’vin scanned the room as his vision returned. The pile of scrappy furs was stirring. He stood, the rotting box scrapping against the stone floor. Across the room was the object of all his recent thoughts. Why him? What is it…about him?
The man crumpled in the bed turned over uncomfortably. R’vin had looked him over but he’d only found a few bruises, nothing that would warrant the condition the other Rider was in. Most days he was barely lucid, opening his eyes only to look frantically about the room for something he couldn’t find. Now, he just stared, and despite all R’vin had seen in his life the stare began to unnerve him. It started at the back of his mind and the base of his spine and slowly crawled over him.
The lightning lit up R’lor’s unwavering stare. Petrifying brown eyes that were awake to the world, the clouds that had hung over them gone to join the torrent that fell ceaselessly down.
The light struck the far end of the island. With its glow the voiceless whys flooded the room.
Why are you here? Why you? Why were you worthy of love?
R’lor hung his head first. He ducked to retreat to the solitude of his eyelids, but he was denied that. Eyes forced back open he stared at R’vin, the CrimsonRider’s grasp digging into his arm.
The thunder asked why this time.
“I can’t,” R’lor said dryly. It was the first thing he’d said in days. Still the Rider loomed over him. Whatever he had said was not acceptable. R’lor tried to shrug out of R’vin’s grasp but the Crimson Rider didn’t relent. “Why are you doing this to me?” He finally had the guts to ask.
It was the why that sent R’vin to the other side of the room. He wanted to stay there, but first he grabbed the cold bowl and shoved it in R’lor’s hands. Then he returned to the crate, sat facing the wall, head in his hands.
“This is disgusting,” R’lor commented, halfway through the portion.
The storm wasn’t there to speak for R’vin. He stood up quickly, eyes burning into the wall. R’lor hadn’t looked up. When he did the eyes were there to meet him.
“…yes?” he asked.
R’vin threw the bowl clear across the room, savoring its clattering. “Shardit, R’lor. Do you have any idea?” A cool head in the face of anger, and it had made him snap.
“Apparently not, since I’m still not sure why you’re even here,” he replied. He got a clinched fist in response. Next thing he knew he was being drug up by his shoulders. “Is that any way to treat-?”
“Shut up, R’lor!” R’vin raged. R’lor almost found it funny. He hadn’t spoken for days and here was a Rider, coaxing him back to health, screaming at him to shut up the day he started talking again.
“Funny, R’vin,” R’lor smiled. He actually smiled, and his disbelieve widened his grin.
The affirmation sunk into R’vin’s consciousness deeper. This was why…This BrownRider, the effect he had on people. He didn’t even know. By all rights, oughtn’t he hate him?
“That scowl really doesn’t become you,” the BrownRider chastised, removing R’vin’s hands and giving him a pat on the side of the face. “Can’t have an ugly CrimsonRider. Then you’d be completely unbearable.”
“Unlike you. You’ve already reached that point,” R’vin pushed R’lor aside and retreated to the other wall. His frown had flared back up.
R’lor had tripped back onto the furs. It didn’t hurt, in his state of mind it was almost fun. After days of nothing this was almost exciting. It was that thought that encouraged him to get back up. “I’m not in trouble, am I?” he asked with a voice that belied his understanding.
R’vin didn’t have the voice to say, no.
“Look, when the rain gets manageable we’re getting out of here,” R’vin ordered.
R’lor took in this news without a word. Instead he inched up to the CrimsonRider, a strange look in his eye. “I see. You want to go somewhere more…private.”
R’vin thanked the darkness as his face lit up a rather unseemly color.
“It’s alright. I won’t tell the others,” R’lor continued.
Had he always been like this? R’vin wondered, risking a glance at the BrownRider. He was about to ask but something stopped him. He needed to get R’lor out of the Weyr one way or another. This excuse worked. He’d been away long enough to have a long list of hiding places, allies on the outside, money hidden away in the strangest of holes. Something nagged at him to enter his thoughts but R’vin ignored it.
They stood in silence, shuffling about. R’lor took to walking a circle around the weyr, getting the feel back into his legs. R’vin sat on his crate. The night worn on and was about to break when the rain finally began to let up. Without a word Kaurth appeared on the ledge. R’lor gave the Brown a friendly pat and a look of normalcy spread across his face. He shifted up onto the dragon’s back, Turns of habit impossible to forget. He dropped down a hand for R’vin. The Crimson Rider was up behind him in a second. But Kaurth didn’t take off to leave. R’lor exhaled and shifted, just slightly up against R’vin. He felt the Rider tense…then relax. A strange smile worked its way onto their faces.
“R’lor, w-”
The BrownRider twisted around and shook his head. “Not why. When,” he corrected, swinging one leg over Kaurth’s side so both limbs rested together. “Me…hm, that attractive color you and your dragon share might have something to do with it. …you?”
R’vin’s answer was affirmed by the most distant tremors of thunder. The wavering sounds that matched his hesitating hands, shaking lips. Both knew, weakness was unacceptable. Too forcefully they met, R’lor smiling, R’vin shaking. When? It was unimportant. Meaningless details compared to the little prickling feeling on his forehead where R’lor’s hair touched, compared to the coy kisses that fended off his demanding spirit. The little specks of water that fell on his face, hot in the freezing morning air, made it all unreal. But there he was, R’lor brought back to life. R’vin’s pause earned him a hand on his face and a kiss on the other cheek.
“Time?” R’lor asked.
“Without all of this,” R’lor’s eyes darted back to the weyr and the fate they were abandoning, “plenty.”
The lightning was gone, its brilliance faded and forgotten. But the thunder echoed, traveling the skies. The last rumbles announced the sun, and their decision.
*claps* I think part of my favorite part was all the other characters being in there, because you pull us in who know those folks. Anywho, it was cute. =3
Plus I really liked the end. It isn't quite all happily ever after (yet), but with the story's tone you can see it getting there. Very nice. -clapcalp-
Okay that was a lot better than I expected. I love what you did with the zoo. Also, you weren't too far from R'nos's outer action, and, being most of what you've seen, you were pretty good with that.
He wouldn't have hated that nickname though, he would've loved it. Especially from someone he had a crush on. Only real hiccup you got there. xD Otherwise, fantastic lol. I'm feeling inspired, I might do one of my own.
One thing if you do more R'nos in the future though, he's prone to long-winded inner monologues and conversations with Raegan in this case. xD Haha that's too funny. Poor dragon is now named after a president lol

(Yep, this is happening. Here it comes. Are you ready? Too bad!)
Victims: Kaya and Nai By Jay
Jealous as a Blackbird
It had been several springs ago that they had met, now, and the girl idly wondered what her counterpart was doing at the moment as she sat under the usual pink-petaled tree outside of the school's library, the bench they had moved here themselves now sat. She could recall exactly where the names were carved on the underside of the wooden table. "Kaya and Nai forever". But she had to wonder... Ever since he showed up.
Now, she wasn't normally a jealous girl, but Nai's teenage follies were kicking in this time. What could Kaya possibly see in that guy? T'ren did nothing but generate drama between them, it was such a bad relationship... And they were thinking about having kids? How could they? She sighed and leaned her elbow on the table, waiting still for the bell to ring. She had no final period, because of her advanced smarts that she'd had to rightfully earn herself. Nai wasn't a girl who couldn't achieve, if she wanted something, she obtained it.
Which is why she had been so excited that both her and Kaya had been accepted into the cheerleading squad. She looked forward to practice today. Seeing Kaya in that outfit was a wonder of it's own. She was dexterous and strong, and so graceful... Not only that, but she got straight A's, and was the nicest girl she knew. So why hang out with a punk like T'ren? Stupid jock boyfriends, grrr! It riled her up just thinking about it. If there was one thing she could safely say she was, it would be a warrior. And her warrior spirit was strong on this topic.
It burned inside of her.
This want, this desire, to just let out her feelings!
She was in love! Deeply, madly in burning desire for one individual for whom her heart could never shine brighter.
And that was when she walked up. Her hair glistened in the sun, shined around and reflected off of her eyes as though they were diamonds. She could feel the radiant beauty. For a moment she was stunned.
"-ou okay?"
She found that she had been staring, meanwhile Kaya had been waving a hand before her face. She looked concerned.
"You've been like that for several seconds, should I get the nurse?"
Nai waved a hand.
"No, no, I was just thinking through a really complicated math problem that Ms. Sakura asked me earlier. It was weird though, for some reason R'nos keeps staring at her in class. I think he likes teachers. A little too much, you know?"
Kaya shook her head. "Yeah, that guy's weird. Always drawing tigers on his notebooks." She flipped her hair, and for a moment Nai felt herself salivate. The moment passed soon enough.
"So, you ready to head to practice?" Nai questioned after a couple seconds of silence, and Kaya simply nodded, waiting for Nai to gather her things before they began to walk toward the field in the back of the high school. They found the team warming up, and quickly joined in. Practice was as exhausting as usual, lasting several hours and giving everyone a real workout. Sometimes they felt as though they had it harder than the boys, what with their football practice and all. None of them could do a handstand! Nai felt that that was justification in and of itself.
As soon as practice was over, though, and everyone had shuffled in, taken their showers, and were getting their things and leaving, she found herself waiting on Kaya who was taking exceptionally long drying her hair. This, of course, bothered the slightly impatient Nai, who wound up tapping her foot. After awhile Kaya looked over, a bothered expression on her face.
"You know, if I'm boring you you can just leave."
"I'm not bored," Nai replied, hastily, as though she were trying to convince Kaya there wasn't a pink elephant in the room, when there was.
Kaya stuffed a golden dragon plushie into her backpack, before she looked up at Nai, blowing a lock of her hair out of her face.
"You always say that when you're lying," Kaya started, and Nai immediately grumbled.
"What do you mean, lying? You think I'm a liar?" Her agitated state made her quick to defend, but Kaya held a rebuttal.
"Well you were lying right then, weren't you?" Her voice started to hold an edge of annoyance.
"Ugh, you always do this! Why can't I just wait in peace for you to take forever doing your hair? Honestly, you're such a girly girl, it pisses me off! Why can't you be more hasty? Nobody cares that you spent an extra twelve hours on your eyelashes!"
The girl reeled back, and look rather hurt, as tears came to her eyes. Nai's expression immediately softened, and she held up a hand to stop her, but she was too quick. She ran toward the back of the locker room, and back out on to the field. And of course, Nai followed her. She caught up to her and grasped her shoulder, spinning her around.
"What?!" Kaya questioned, and Nai bit her lip. This was some bad timing.
"I think you should break up with T'ren." SMACK! Immediately afterward, Kaya left a big, red hand-print on her cheek. She deserved that and she knew it. But she was still valid, and so she grasped both of the other girl's arms, so she couldn't hit her again.
Kaya was fuming, and fought to get free, but to no avail. Nai had her, she wasn't going anywhere. She was forced to listen, or to speak.
"Why can't you ever just let me be?! Why do you always have to fudge things up, when you're around I can't even think straight! And now you want me to break up with T'ren?!"
Nai grimaced, her friend was upset now and it felt like it was her fault. But she knew she had to do this, here and now.
"Kaya, you have to break up with him. It's a terrible relationship, and you know it. You've been saying so yourself for the longest time, just end it! He creates so much problems for you, it would just... Be better..."
She had to admit, Nai had a point. She slowly started to calm down, and stopped fighting. Nai let her go, and they both turned to slowly walk toward the edge of the field, then into the forest on the side. They needed to be somewhere alone, they couldn't just talk about this on the school grounds where everyone else could see them. It took them a couple minutes to get to the clearing where they often hung out, either at lunch or to ditch class or all the other ridiculous things they liked to do. Nai spoke first.
"What I'm trying to say is, I've noticed how unhappy he makes you. I..." The girl looked away, and her friend responded.
"You what?" Kaya questioned, tilting her head to the side.
"I just don't think he's right for you."
Kaya took a moment to think it over. She had to admit, Nai wasn't wrong. But such a momentous act, just pushed onto her like that? She wasn't sure what Nai was going through but she had a feeling that she wasn't the only one who was becoming upset. Nai, on the other hand, was going through a tremendous internal battle. She wanted to just scream it from the highest mountain, make it perfectly clear right here and now. She was in love with Kaya, she always had been, ever since they'd met. But such a taboo wouldn't ever be allowed by her friend... Would it? She was just so conflicted!
"What are you thinking about?" Kaya asked, in response to her friend's silence.
Nai was a bit shocked by this question, and, not really filtering her answers, she stumbled over her words. "I... We, well... You, I guess." She blinked, not intending for it to sound like that.
"Well what about me?" Kaya questioned, curious.
"Just... Well, that you're independent, and strong, and beautiful, and clever, and you can have any damn guy in the whole world, but you are stuck with the one that treats you like dirt."
Kaya couldn't help but smile at Nai. She always made her feel good about herself. Especially when T'ren was giving her problems. She knew she should've gone out with R'nos. He was so much studlier. Oh well.
But if she couldn't date T'ren, then who did she really want? She had this deep craving inside of her that told her she wanted to be with someone. She thought it was T'ren, and indeed it went away when he was around, but she didn't feel happy with him. Come to think of it... That feeling went away when she was around Nai, too, but... She was happy...
Nai smiled at her smile, glad that she wasn't upset.
"I'm sorry of this seems so momentous, I just-"
She was cut off as Kaya leapt up and raced to her, pushing her lips against Nai's own. The feeling that flooded her was volcanic in nature, stemming from her toes and shooting all the way up to her skull. It was electric and burning, but it felt sooo good. It was like a thousand years of pain were just relieved, in that one simple action. Nai's hands came up to embrace Kaya's face, holding her there just seconds longer before letting go.
They were both panting due to the length of that kiss, and Nai wore a sheepish grin while Kaya blushed heavily.
"Wow... I didn't know I could do that," Kaya said breathlessly, and fanned herself off a bit.
"Heck, screw it!" Nai shouted, and pounced the girl, stealing all the future kisses she wanted. <3~
It was then that Nai remember she hadn't fed Chronos or Akash this morning...
The end.

The cheerleaders bit I assumed as just a bit of crack to remind you again that it's in good fun. I can't see either of them as cheerleaders. I felt kinda bad for T'ren. D= Poor misguided jock soul.
Overall Kaya was written with her niceness correctly but more girlie than I ever made her. But that's good because silly fics should have weird quirks. =3
The "should've gone out with R'nos" quip made me laugh too. Self serving, fic, Jay? -laughs-
I also just liked that the other fics have been off-Pern and light hearted for the most part. I mean, as light hearted as Nai can be. XD

What? No, that's just what Nai thinks of him. You can totally see it.
Anyway, that was a particularly fun fic to write. xD It had me cheering for Nai for some reason. Also I totally portrayed T'ren more negatively than he really was so don't take that like I was hatin'.

Didn't think you were hatin', it was just a strong theme in the story so I noticed it. Characters are supposed to have something they want more than anything else in plot driven situations and you made that very clear and apparent, compelling even.
