Z had been working in the hot kitchens practically all day. At least if one didn't count his lessons that day and meals. Though even then, his eating time had been used up by cleaning up after some weyrbrats' messes. Sighing, the healer, candidate ran a hand through his hair. He was tired, exhausted really. The hatching was growing ever nearer though. That much was always clear. The eggs were a hardening testament to that promise, always growing more tangible with the passing candlemarks. Speaking of which, he had spent maybe a half of one just sitting near a window watching Rukbat sink behind the horizon.
A dark stain on the world was the result. How beautiful yet ominous it seemed. Surely it didn't mean anything though. Closing his eyes for a split second, Zorasn breathed in the scent of the outdoors. He could catch it on the wind that grazed past the window. Inside though it was different. Placed between his previous residence and his new destination, the little nook was a nice place to stay and relax in. Certainly it was secluded.
Not that the young man minded company, in fact he often sought it out. If he wanted socialization though, he would have taken Saka up on that offer to go swimming in the lake. A few candidates had decided to spend time there tonight. For once, Zorasn had no mind to be with them. No, loneliness was occasionally preferred. It gave him time to think.
On what? His past most likely. Or perhaps think on nothing at all, or at least of consequence. Taking a string cord out of his pocket, the candidate started tiring knots into it. When that didn't keep him more or less preoccupied, he started listing medical facts. "Wrapping a dragon's threadscore takes x amount of bandage, the rider takes another amount only a portion.....when they get fever, they are to be given.....a comatose patient needs..." He went on and on answering his own questions as if he were back in classes. A bitter thought and memory arced across his mind then. A voice telling him, playing on his fears, that he was only useful as a healer. That he wouod never impress despite how much he wanted this. Sighing, Zorasn let the cord slip through his fingers, and the listing slceased to spill from his lips. Instead he watched as a single green dragoness dove in the darkening sky.
