I think they're coming along in their studies quiet well, a satisfied voice said. Rilora and Archith had just come from a short meeting with Inoria and her Sunlance, Zaranyth, to talk about the new weyrlings. While Rilora was pleased with what they'd seen in the classroom, Archith was still on edge. She walked with her Gold along the Weyr Bowl, headed in the general direction of the ocean. Her Queen needed a moment to sort things and calm down. It wasn't like Archith to show so much interest in every day Weyr matters, but they were her own children, Rilora figured. That probably had something to do with it.
I still wish there was more we could do for them. I know there's only twenty six, but someone ought to have already volunteered to be Zaranyth's assistant! Archith was back to her demanding self since the Hatching, though her focus was still around her dragonets. She felt herself fretting about them more often than she cared to admit. It was Rilora's quality to worry and she ought to take it back!
It's perfectly natural to be concerned for those you care for deeply, Rilora mentioned, trying to calm her agitated Gold. Shouldn't she be happy after hearing how well her children were doing in their lessons? Sometimes the Gold made no sense to her Rider. They're doing excellent so far. Please calm down.
Still though, they've only covered the easy stuff. Things are going to get harder. There's anatomy and healing, firestone handling and the few who think they want to be mothers first have to fill out their applications and even then they might not get picked. ...it could hurt them, Mine. Archith kept fidgeting as they walked. She herself wasn't used to caring this much, to having her heart battered by each concern she could imagine. Maybe I just need a good rush in my wings...
Rilora decided to oblige her dragon. The though crossed her mind that the type of take off speed Archith had planned would toss her hair, but some tangles would be worth it if Archith felt better. That was how their bond worked: give and take, with an extra helping of understanding.
The Gold beat her wings as hard as she could to release the tension she felt inside. They were up in the air in no time flat, though Archith had no intention of staying up with Rilora. She wasn't harnessed and so nothing but the straightest of flight would suit her Rilora. Archith dove back towards the beach as soon as she was able and touched down in the water's shallows. Rilora might get the fringe of her skirt wet, but only if she wasn't careful.
Thank you, love, Rilora slid down her Gold's side into the water, which caught one edge of her skirt, which had slipped. Hiking it back up, Rilora moved into even shallower water and finally into the surf, which was much nicer to walk on than the grainy, stick-to-everything dry sand. Hopefully some time at the beach would help Archith feel better.
