Hey everyone! Long time RP'r and Pern RP'r here. Generally I'm a canon-only type, but I thought I'd jump out and give a new board at least a closer look. I'm 26, live in South Korea (so my hours are about opposite of most of ya'll States people), am a preschool/elementary teacher and PG-level sort of writer.
Have a question for ya'll as a whole that I like to offer the courtesy to asking every GM at least of groups I join... Are there any character types that anyone's interested in seeing created, or any holes that might be fun to see plugged up? I love the challenge of creating a character that fits in but is still my own.
Still looking through the site, looking forward to getting to know ya'll and figuring out how RP in this group would be different from any other group! <3

Annnnd... now for more questions!
So RMW is in an interval... What sort of plot line is going on right now?
And...I'm completely lost on the LifeWings. I didn't see any information there as to what the wings actually are and how it affects the current game play. So, where are these lifewings located, how do they interact with characters? Are they cohesive, military-style trained wings like the dragonriders, or just a subset of the Weyr and useful companions? Or are they still wild?
Hi there! I'm the GM/Admin around here. Name's Kaya. Welcome Ariyalauna!
It's not entirely true that we don't have any plots going on. We are just in the very first starting phases of a lot of them, so they haven't shown up much in the RP state and are mostly just planned out. I always love to hear plot ideas though, so if one strikes you, feel free to message me. I'm a bit of a chatterbox.
Dance is right in saying that they're her imagination baby though I think others have had their hand in shaping them some too. So we're working on integrating them into the entire scale of the game because before the time jump they were a brand new addition.
As for characters we need, I'll get back to you about that tomorrow. I have an essay to write, but I wanted to start answering your questions and say hello. =)
Know that you are welcome to make whatever kind of character you like.
I've been looking for a few people to play older Riders (in their mid-sixties and up) who would likely be war veterans from the Weyr War, which would require some history reading.
Also, we don't have a Candidate Master yet. Or the Weyrling Master could use an assistant.
We also only have one PC wher handler. So we could use some more.
You could adopt one of Archith's to-be-NPCed weyrlings or you could make a quick Candidate for her clutch if you want a baby dragon.
Otherwise just interesting Riders or even non-Riding weyrfolk if you like. We get all sorts here.
I was definitely thinking of making an older character all ready; however, if it's the 15th turns of the Interval, the Weyr War started at the beginning of the last Pass, and a Pass is typically 50 turns... Mmm, this would make a fighting-aged person closer to 75 in age, at the absolute youngest. I don't know that that's a feasible age for anyone on Pern, much less a dragonrider that went through a Pass (along with so many other horrible things!). Is my math calculating right on that?
Also, yes, I read the LifeWing thread. It didn't really provide practical information on it as to how to handle the LifeWings in role play. Seriously, with them only being around for such a short period of time, I could totally see where some people are still very wary of them... And their horrible, despicable beginnings (according to how the people know and see it). I could also see it where people don't really know how to *handle* them yet and are still trying to decide what to do with them, as far as training and the like goes. Sssooo many possibilities with them, RP-wise, I'd like to know the intent.
What exactly do you mean by non-Euro typical characters? I would think on Pern that all the characters are pretty much fundamentally the same culturally, as a matter of fact that's the Harpers' goal (though I totally see where that's not possible, especially in an expanded world like this). I'm not sure, culturally, what you would want with that? A Pernese is a Pernese, and there's no different "types" of Pernese, really... ?
Any personalities anyone's looking to see about? =D Love the feedback. Have a sort-of direction I want to go, but it totally opens it up to plenty of possibilities. (Read: Ariya is bad at making just *one* character at a time... ~cough~)
Well if they were in their teens during the war then yes, they'd be 75 now. The war didn't happen right before we moved the time line. I'm really rusty on canon, unfortunately, but I could have sworn Moreta was quite up there in age. I don't think it'd be too unusual for some people out of the many many many involved to still be alive. It's a weird conundrum, because I thought I had read that Pernese actually lived to be quite old, but then you have to think about their medical technology and that brings age back down for the majority. So I just started treating all of them by average modern death averages because it seemed to be a good middle point. -shrug-
I'm not sure what you mean by 'handle'. LifeWings are primarily advanced healing units. The pair undergoes practical healing training and learns from other LifeWings about healing. There are so few of them it wouldn't be feasible for them to live on their own and its much more practical to just have them be part of a Weyr's structure. After about sixty Turns of being around, the younger generations would probably really like LifeWings in general if they grew up in an unbiased environment, but certainly some of the older Riders and their families or affected Holdfolk might still dislike them. When I introduced LifeWings to the RP I intended animosity to be a part of their integration but none of the PCs treated them any way other than positively. -shrug-
What she means is that a lot of people here make characters with blonde/brown hair and lightish skin. -shrug- I don't really have limits on biologically possible and common (at least in our world's sense of it) traits, so light to 'deep tan' skin, black to light blonde hair and dark brown to light blue grey eyes are all fine.
Oh, don't worry. Simile made a ton of characters all at once too. heh
I just like to see characters who are able to be written in a way that their RPs match the jist of their bios and can become part of the RP story here as a whole in whatever way their writer chooses.
I personally would like to see the "holes" of people with mental/physical conditions filled.
Blind people, deaf people, mute people, schizophrenics, megalomaniacs, the generally conceited or wicked, way too overly determined types that are so determined that they fail very often, the guy that tries to be the hero but everyone ends up looking down on him until their darkest hour, the nice guy who gets stepped on too much... The ones that stray from the 'typical', you know? Those are the ones I like. Like Elraishsa, she's an orphan wildchild with social issues since because lived in a cave her whole life.
I like characters with flavor and feeling, those that are developed as opposed to simply just created. Ones that feel like if they died you'd miss a part of yourself. *hugs Synire intensely close, despite how awkward he looks*
Hmmm... I'm giving myself ideas.
Tiger Cirryyth of Weyrharper V'ridian Black Sunristh of Weyrling A'kai Blood Zojiroth of Candidate Master Moraiya Lavender and her fading Starlight Fayzeth Elraishsa of the Wild Rowensae and Pscittasch Lylore the Strange Oldbies: R'nos, Felora, K'cin, S'nire(deceased)
