Name: Tera
Pronunciation: exactly how it's spelled.
Gender: female
Age: 15
Turnday: 3061.05.13
Weyr: Rainbow Mists
Rank: Wingrider
Family: Amara, father, age 36, Journeyman SeaFarer. Mother, Tessa, 37, journeywoman WeaverCrafter. Aunt, Sanata, 30, Journeywoman WeaverCrafter
Weyrmate: Nope
Friends: None yet in the Weyr.
Pets: Blue flit Rain, Sunlace Layla
Appearance:The first thing anyone notices about Tera is her hair, which falls down her back in a straight black curtain, down to her waist. Often, her hair is pulled back in a ribbon, usually a simple one of a single color. She likes using the darker browns that color Picosith's hide. Her eyes are a bright, intelligent blue, with a touch of green around the pupils. Her skin is a slightly darker shade of tan, due to the amount of time she spends outside. Her cheeks are often slightly colored with a healthy glow, and her face is rarely without the smile of youthful energy. Tera is rather tall, standing at about five foot four, and is still growing. She is slender, at only 110 pounds, due to her high activity levels. She is also almost always seen wearing stylishly matching clothes, helped in part by Picosith.
Personality: Tera is maturing quickly, with her only real problem being that she longs to be recognized by other Wingriders as a Wingrider worthy of the name. She is determined and loyal, but is slow to warm up to others. She doesn't like talking about her feelings with others either, simply because she wishes to appear strong. She doesn't like to appear weak.
In truth, Tera is very loving, as shown by her two flitters who are often always on her shoulders. She tends to show it only around young children, however, simply because of her distaste of the way the older riders have treated her in the past.
Tera, like Picosith, has an eye for color. She notices every color, and the slightest changes. She can see the first leaf change from Summer's green to the reds and golds of Fall. She has an eye for detail as much as for color, and may spend a candlemark or two deciding on which clothes look best with what. Early in the morning, if one were to call upon her, one would find her in front of the reflective metal, holding various articles to her frame, comparing which shirt looks best with that skirt.
History: Tera was born in a very blessed time for children; the third Turn of the eleventh Interval. Due to the fact that Thread was gone, and not likely to return anytime soon, Tessa and Amara were overjoyed at the birth of their first daughter.
Tessa and Amara relocated to CliffSide Sea Hold from Ista's island Hold, figuring that a place with better access to land was a more ideal location to attempt to start a family. They were some of the first of their family lines to brave the sheer cliffs of the Sea Hold, and Tera was born soon after.
Amara was home irregularly, as his SeaFaring duties meant he was often away. However, the times he was at home were special occasions for the small family. Amara and Tera became close during those times, and Amara often brought Tessa rare dyes for her Weaving. Tera always looked forward to her father's visits, as they brought exciting new things from other Holds and lands.
Tera played with many of the other children at CliffSide, but she wasn't very close to any of them.
One day, Tessa recieved a letter from her sister in Rainbow Mists Weyr, requesting help with a surprisingly difficult Weaving. Tessa readily agreed, and told Amara just before he was to leave on his most recent trip overseas that she would be taking Tera with her to visit her sister. Tera was excited by this prospect, and eagerly followed her mother to the Weyr.
Not long after they arived, the dragons began to hum. Sanata and Tessa realized that a Hatching was imminent, and the pair decided that Tera should get to see at least one in her lifetime. They went to witness the Hatching, but were surprised when the child ran from the Stands to the Sands, only to embrace a little Wood hatchling. They realized then that Tera had Impressed, and to a female that could possibly Clutch, at that. Tessa didn't like thinking about what Amara would say when he found out that Tessa had left Tera at the Weyr. The first-time mother comforted herself with the fact that Sanata was there as well to watch over the child.
Adoption?: Only if she becomes a key plot character.
Dragon's Name: Picosith
Dragon’s Gender: female
Dragon's Age: 2 years, month 8, day 15, 3073
Dragon's Color: Wood. 993300
Dragon's Appearance: Picosith is small, only growing to 17 feet at maturity. Her hide swirls with the medium browns of the jungles surrounding Rainbow Mists.
Dragon's Personality:Picosith has an incredible eye for color. She loves color and more than that she loves matching colors and admiring how they complement one another. Beware, though, if anything disturbs the object that has caught her attention. She will not be a happy dragon and will hold a grudge for a long time after she's forgotten why she is mad. Which, by the way, is significantly longer than most other dragons. Her rider can expect to impress a fair of firelizards if they don't really want to because firelizards are colorful and Picosith just loves trying to attract the one that will give her rider the most eye pleasing fair in the Weyr.
Picosith is also very protective of young Hers. The child is Picosith's world, short of the possible mate in the future if she Rises after maturity. She is even willing to put off Rising until Hers is ready, both physically and mentally.
Dragon's History: There isn't much history for Picosith. She Hatched as one of Archith's first, and Impressed to Tera. Though, the meathod of Impression is still confusing to everyone who was there.
Impression:(as it could have happened)
The little Wood looked around, and sauntered over to the line of girls. No, not this one... Not this one either. This one was too old. That one was too single-minded. No... None of theses were Hers! None of them were good enough! She turned, looking off into the Stands that surrounded the Hatching Sands. There! The little one hanging over the barrier! Younger than the rest, she was. Was that why the other humans hadn't wanted her to be down with the other dragons?
TeraMine, why are you up there? the dragonet asked. Come to your Picosith's side. Your Picosith needs you.
____________
"Is it a real hatching mama?" the girl asked.
"It is indeed, Tera," Tessa said. "We are lucky to be able to witness something so incredible."
"Too bad papa couldn't come with us!" Tera said. The girl held to her mother's hand, and the pair followed the flow of people toward the Stands. "Are those the people who will Impress?" she asked, pointing toward the Candidates in their robes.
"Those are the Candidates," Tessa told her daughter. "Not all of them will Impress to a Dragon, but many of them will. There will be some that get hurt, but all will be able to be healed." They entered the Stands, and Tessa found a spot close to the front where Tera could watch from the front and still be seen by her mother. Tera, predictably, ran right to the barrier that prevented those in the Stands from entering the Sands. The little girl put her hands on the top, which came midchest on the child. She watched, relatively quietly, as the other dragonets Hatched and Impressed their Riders. She saw all the different colors, the Starlight, the Iron, and the Blue of Original colors. There were so many different ones! It was incredible!
Then, the strangest one yet hatched. It had swirls of other colors, but was primarily a darker brown. The swirls had what seemed to be a little green, and some lighter browns. Tera recognised this as one of the rarer Wood dragons she'd heard the Harpers speak of. The little one didn't seem to be satisfied with the Candidates on the Sands. Tera began to wonder what a Hatchling did if it didn't find the one it was destined to be with. Would it leave? That wouldn't be good! The colors covering its hide were beautiful! They reminded Tera of the trees in the nearby Jungle.
TeraMine, why are you up there? asked a voice in her head. She looked around, surprised. No one else had heard that voice? Come to your Picosith's side. Your Picosith needs you. The feeling was incredible. Tera closed her eyes a moment before they flashed back open. She darted to the side, found a set of steps that descended into the Sands, and dashed out, surprising everyone there. Why would a dragonet choose such a young child as it's Mine?
"Picosith!" Tera called when she reached the Candidates. The little Wood went toward Hers, a feeling of intense happiness flowing between them. Tera embrased the little dragonet, reveling in the feeling of Impression.
TeraMine, your Picosith is hungry, the dragonet said. The pair were escorted off the Sands by a bemused BlueRider, who recognised the signs of Impression even in a child as young as Tera.
