Name: Raaiz (to be R’aiz)
Pronunciation: Rah-aze
Gender: Male
Age: 13
Turnday: 03. 11. 3060
Weyr: Rainbow Mists Weyr
Rank: Dragon Candidate
Family: Iilyar – Mother
Nanidier – Older Brother
Friends: ?
Pets: None
Appearance: Raaiz is very young for a candidate, and therefore, very short compared to most candidates. However, given his age, he will probably grow to be a tall young man once he hits his growth spurt. Raaiz swims a lot when possible, and it has actually given him a trim and fit body for his age. However, Raaiz tends to accentuate his current smallness and detract from his fit body with the way he stands. He tends not to look up at people very often, hunching down a bit and averting eye contact, and he is naturally a bit pigeon toed. He still has a babyish face with round cheeks and a short nose. The most prominent feature on his face is his big, watery blue eyes, usually wide with a mix of alertness and nervousness that makes them seem brighter than the grayish blue irises might otherwise appear. His hair is dirty blond, with dark caramel brown undertones with much brighter pale yellow highlights. It frams his face in mostly straight locks, but no matter what length his hair it always inevitably curls up at the ends. He has a cowlick on the top of his head that absolutely refuses to smooth out. Ever.
Personality: Raaiz is a bit of a fluttery young man. He is incredibly conscience of other people and their feelings, to the point where he seems to be constantly stressed over what to do an say in order to keep everyone around him happy. His mouth seems to run about two steps ahead of his mind however, and he tends to talk in sudden gushes with little censorship of his thoughts. Of course, this leads him to often say things he immediately regrets, so he tends to slowly lower and quiet his voice as he gets more and more flustered, usually only finally stopping when he claps his hands definitively over his own mouth. He usually apologizes profusely for everything he says, though much of it is completely innocent. Once one gets past this rather overwhelming habit of his there is more to his character than meek placation.
Raaiz does love to make friends and socialize despite the stress it gives him, and he actually often puts other people’s needs far before his own, a habit that has before caused him to neglect himself at inopportune times. Raaiz has a healthy curiosity, and though it’s tempered by his caution, really that merely makes him explore it in a slow and sensible manner, rather than actually abandon his curious urges. Also, while Raaiz has a genuine desire to make other people happy and might compromise to make them so, despite any setbacks or compromises he may make, if he has a goal in mind he will quietly and constantly pursue it. Raaiz is not one to tackle problems head on with increasing force in order to solve them, but to keep coming at them at different angles and patiently chip away at it intelligently. He is not the hammer that bursts through walls, but the tiny spring of water that flows around them. Speaking of water, it’s important to note that Raaiz loves it. Swimming sends him into a happy bliss that for him is matched by no other. When put under intense pressure however (and ONLY when the pressure is intense,) Raaiz is able to put all his sheepishness and hesitation behind him and do what needs to be done, dealing with the emotional consequences later.
History: Raaiz was the second son born to his mother Iilyar, and she only twenty turns when it happened, eighteen when she had had his brother Nanideir. She was neither finished with her training nor married to Raaiz and Nanideir's father, the first boy being the accident. She left her hold while in the final stages of apprenticing to become a weaver in order to follow Raaiz and Nanidier's father after getting pregnant with the second boy. What became of the father, no one is really sure, but when Iilyar came to the Cliff-Side SeaHold, no man came forward to claim her and her sons, and she was left alone to raise her boys.
Having neither proper journeyman status, any friends in her new hold, nor any resources to get home, Iilyar had a difficult time raising Raaiz and his brother. Raaiz and Nanidier were mostly left on their own. Their mother took on whatever jobs she could though really could barely support herself and her two sons. Nanidier was the one left to shoulder the responsibility left by their unknown father and turned to begging and occasionally stealing on the streets. Raaiz was the only one left in his family to actually live his life.
Raaiz felt it was his duty to learn for his brother's sake, as he was often too busy to attend many lessons. Raaiz devoured his work, doing well in his lessons barring the occasional day missed due to family matters. Though he was very young, he could sense his mother's embarrassment at their situation, and the slightly degrading existence of his family, and so Raaiz was a very quiet and withdrawn child, not really reaching out to the other children in his hold, though he desperately wanted to. He frequently spent his time at the nearby ocean, as he discovered that he was both a natural at swimming and that it relaxed his anxious mind
As he grew older and more proficient at swimming, he also began becoming more confident in himself. Raaiz began searching for a fisherman master to apprentice under, though had difficulty finding one as neither him nor his mother had networked much in their time at the Hold. He did dream of dragons, finding them beautiful and powerful, and in some way realizing that they belonged in the air like he belonged in the water, and finding a connection in that. He also highly respected their fabled job of defending and protecting the Weyr. He, of course, didn't think for a second that he would actually ever be searched. That he would ever even be considered for impression. Raaiz watched dragons from afar, until one day when a dragonrider came to him and invited him to become a candidate... and Raaiz knew he had gotten the chance of a lifetime...
Adoption?: No thank you, though he can be controlled as an npc if he becomes vital to the plot or if I disappear/leave and things must be wrapped up…
Dragon Preferences: No preferences both OOC or IC, Raaiz is just thankful for the chance to impress…
