| 76.08.27 | Evening | A storage room adjusted to host a party |
Lithena had asked her a sevenday ago to take a shorter work day so they could have a rush-free dinner together. Thinking it was an alright idea at the time, Rilora agreed. However that work day did not go at all as planned. It opened with a scathing letter from Igen sitting on her desk, not the first but certainly in the running for worst. T'kar had still not found that missing letter, or maybe it was another letter that had vanished. She couldn't tell from his general lack of communication skills. She took her lunch in her office to avoid the rambunctious noise in the dining hall and that had earned her three soggy letters, not the least of which among them was one from Hedara now rendered unreadable. She would have to send for it again and that was not only spirit crushing and disappointing but also embarrassing. To end her "short" work day, the interim long term head lower caverns staff had arrived to recall to her attention the tithe caravan that had vanished several days ago, complete with lengthy witness reports, expected losses, expected provisional replacements...
"This. This is your work. This is what you're supposed to figure out!" Rilora said letting her hands fly up from her sides. "And when you've figured out these issues that intelligent, grown adults are expected to face, send me a summary."
There was a slice of a moment in which nothing was said. Then the objections started. But this. But that.
"OUT! Out of my office!"
They protested the entire way out. Rilora shut and locked the door just missing someone's fingers and retreated through the other doorway towards her weyr. The only way out now was through the outside.
Need a lift?
No. But I'll take one.
Archith was actually pleased with her Rider's outburst. It was more emphasis than she'd put on anything lately.
And while you're around, have a nice dinner with your sister. If those accounting loonies bother you again I'll scare their hides off.
Rilora and Archith chuckled together. They glided down into the Bowl together, Rilora enjoying her hair fluttering. It felt better than being in her office. In that moment she realized she didn't care what the lower caverns decided to do. They'd managed before, and in any case it was their problem! In a moment of privacy and abandon she shouted into the air breezing past her.
There's my Rider. Hrith says your sister is just in the kitchens.
Rilora gave Archith a thankful caress on the nose before heading inside. What she found was not quite what she expected.
"Hey, sis. You made it," Lithena announced, coming up to give her sister a hug. Tucked under one arm was a wine bottle and an almost white towel. "Your table is this way," Lithena gestured with more formality before bouncing off towards the lower caverns. "Private party room, just for you."
"Lithena, we were just going to have dinner," Rilora objected, following her sister.
"When are my plans ever 'just' anything?" Lithena replied in time.
Shrugging it off Rilora followed her sister to the aforementioned party room. It was a storage room that had been repurposed for the evening, complete with table, chairs and quite a few more bottles.
"Lithena-"
"Come on," Lithena insisted, herding her sister in. "It'll be fun."
