Personality: R’vor is a thoughtful man who treasures his solitude and quiet moments with those closest to him. He has an easy going demeaner best displayed around animals and children and enjoys guiding others to that “ah ha!” moment of learning. His mentoring personality was fostered by his family and many younger cousins and farm kids. With perceptive Iridith on watch, he will use that time reading or helping others with their studies when asked. R’vor can easily sink back into books but is never too busy with them to set the pages aside and lend a hand to whatever task needs doing. He reserves his opinions, seldom sharing even with his family. He stays out of the middle of things, whether excitement or conflict.
History: R’vor grew up Rendevor in the middle valley fields amongst Rainbow Mists Weyr. The Poulin family have tended the livestock for the Weyr, along with others, for several generations. His parents used their trade as a way of teaching responsibility, purpose, and a multitude of life lessons. Ren learned to marvel at the paradoxical resilience and fragility of life. He is an only child, and a few Turns older than most of the others he grew up with, and so often filled the mentor role rather than just another playmate. Unlike most of the others, his cousin Vortil wouldn’t wander back off after a question or small task was done, instead sticking around to help with the chickens or climb trees or play any number of other games. The two remained close as youngsters, settling into a quiet friendship as teenagers. Ren continued with the family work, taking particular satisfaction in the job of collecting, tallying and delivering the eggs from the Weyr’s large flocks. At age 18 he was approached regarding Candidacy, and while it perplexed him as much as the next person to whom the honor was offered, the dragon explained only of his Search that he was a “quiet one, must be why you were missed until now.” So Rendevor accepted and stood for a couple Turns, balancing the requirements of Candidacy with his work in the valley. Then came another of Gold Bylanath’s clutches and within one of those eggs a particularly willful Flame that claimed him as R’vor. They were swept away into weyrlinghood and he did little else than lessons and tend Iridith, who got them into more trouble in a few short months than R’vor had ever found himself in twenty Turns put together. With much time and effort, the pair learned to navigate their differences, thanks in no small part to R’vor’s levelheadedness, and from which occasionally Iridith allows himself to benefit. Iridith is a particularly perceptive dragon, and so the pair are often posted as watch. When the war with Igen broke out the two took to watch and defensive skirmishes, Iridith earning scrapes and a scar. It became much more personal and painful when the conflict took the life of his cousin Vortil. The pair feel the loss differently, but carry on their work for the Weyr, Iridith hoping to get back at those who hurt his Rider and R’vor waiting for the day that he can sit a quiet watch with a book in hand once more. Between a sharp mind and a sharp pair of claws there isn’t much the two of them can’t accomplish, when they can agree on it anyway.
