Late Afternoon
B’ow was surrounded with papers. In a radius around him were books, largely those related to the study of dragons. The papers were his notes, along with a notebook which was not entirely his.
I was thinking something less durable. Not all Lifewings have sharp claws.
But Dragons do. Less durable wouldn’t necessarily be good.
Oh, but if it’s one use anyway, the cost being low in both creation time and mark cost would be good. Even more so because it would mostly benefit riderless Lifewings.
B’ow didn’t respond right away, he just flipped through the notebook and jotted down a quick note. Okay, not high grade leather.
Alright! Now how is your stuff coming along? Hailreth looked at the tubes of dark liquid that were in their barrack, uncovered at the moment for the dragon’s benefit. B’ow looked up from his work for a moment before going back to reading a passage about the relationship between the minds of a rider and their dragon.
I had to throw some of it out, the strong odor won’t work with what I need from it. That and I wouldn’t want anyone to complain. A few are promising. I think the first one is a bit too black though. He wrote down a note on one of his papers, he was getting close to getting everything he needed for his paper, though of course it was not quite enough for him.
I don’t get it, black is stealthy, right?
It is, but darkblue is a lot better for stealth. Black actually stands out too much in the dark.
Huh. B’ow looked up at the neon Purple and smiled a bit. He could see Hailreth’s mind registering and noting the information for later use. Okay, so that’s good for now, let’s go out into the Bowl.
I want to get started on this paper.
Come on! That will take you no time at all. Besides, its daylight now, and we’ll have plenty of time after it gets dark. B’ow looked up at his dragon, who was getting ready to use some of his (considerable) energy into pestering him. He mentally debated his options before turning his eyes on his notes and organizing them into a neat pile. Hailreth cheered up immediately and headed to the Bowl ahead of B’ow, who was now going to get there.
“Come here, Kit.” The Pink firelizard peered at the boy from her perch and strutted over, across his bed. B’ow picked her up, and put her on his shoulder, where she clung and crooned softly. Feline Pink that she was. He gave her a pat and headed out into the Bowl, where his excited Purple was waiting.
The sky, as always was still full of a hazy amber color, and every time B’ow went back inside he had to clean the little white bits of ash out of his hair. He was reminded that things were better, at least compared to how they could have been. The fires were under control, which was all to the good. However the entire thing made him want to grind his teeth. There were more than a few people commenting on a curse and he didn’t have enough information. He had to have enough, at least enough to force them to think! The moment he could do that, that was all he would need. Since after that moment, it was no longer superstition they would be clinging to. Even if their logic was faulty, it would be logic, which was what heed needed. People at this stage were just inclined to panic without thought, and that was what he hated most of all about this whole thing.
He went to the side of the bowl, breathing out as he sat down. It wasn’t obvious, but he hadn’t slept in two days. So many things to do, so little time. That and Hailreth didn’t ever seem to sleep. If he did, it was even less then B’ow himself. Crazy insomniacs that they were. He watched as Hailreth stretched out his wings and looked around for some folks to talk with. He was out and about and he was going to enjoy it!
