The day had yet to truly begin. Rukbat only just graced the skies with the slightest blush of color. It had rained the night before - a warm hot and sticky rain that left the air full of humidity, which made the already hot sands feel hotter as the air closed in around the eggs and around the Rainbow queen who stood a silent vigil over the clutch there. Between her claws sat the coveted golden shelled egg, her head resting to the side of it, one eye fixed on it as the other scanned the rest of her clutch, her wings spread slightly, her tail moving agitatedly. She didn't like this day. This day was going to be big and important and possibly catastrophic. She raised her head slowly, sensing movement of one of the eggs to her side. She sniffed at it and nudged it softly. It responded by shaking more.
She lifted her head high and bugled before she started to hum.
Quiorith! Our Eggs Hatch! Candidates! Get your butts down here in your candidate robes! Moraiya! WeyrlingMasters rouse! Drudges get the meet and tables ready! My eggs prepare to hatch! I will not tolerate tardiness!
She was excited, but she was also very irritable and nervous. This clutch had to be absolutely perfect. They were her first offspring. Her first queen daughter rested in this clutch. Sired by none other than her beloved Quiorith. She looked up and hummed louder, willing for the young one in the heavily mottled shell continued to shake. It was one of the larger eggs in the clutch. And she was already proud of it.
Slowly, very slowly, a purple head stuck its head out. But it wasn't just purple.... it was neon purple. Almost seeming to glow. The little one gave a frustrated little growl and then pressed forward faster and harder, pushing his claws through his shell, pulling his head back and opening the whole wider and wider until he was able to free himself, shaking out his wings and stretching, examining himself. Hmmm... he was nice enough he supposed. A little flashy. He supposed he wouldn't be sneaking around any time soon. He took a step forward. The humans were certainly taking their own sweet time. he sat, curling his tail around his feet and looked back at his mother who seemed to chortle in amusement and crooned at him. He gave her a happy little croon in return. Ah. She was very colorful. He supposed she was never able to sneak around either... but that was okay. He supposed. He was goign to have to stand out like she did. He turned his eyes back to the opening to the sands as he heard movement - they certainly weren't very quiet either.
He looked back as another egg started to shake and crack, this one beginning to split down the middle, a pale yellow claw pushing its way through followed by a wing above it and shortly followed by a nose... and then the dragonet was breaking free, leaving his egg in three or four relatively neat little pieces on the ground around her. The sunlance shook her wings out and surveyed the sands. Hmmm... She looked at her brother and they seemed to exchange words.... before the sunlance started to venture forward, searching already while the young neon purple seemed to be waiting and watching.
Retny was up with a start and running around, trying to help get the meet ready, yelling to R'le to grab some oil and rags as she rushed down the stares, her hair a wild mane around her. Oh Faranth! Today was the day! This was her dragon's first clutch! She couldn't wait! Of course she should have known what all t odo... but as she was far too excited for her own good.... knowing and doing were two very different things.
